Microsoft may be reshuffling development resources across its biggest shooter franchises, with a new report indicating that a studio currently working on Call of Duty could be brought in to contribute to the Halo series.

What the Report Says

According to GameSpot, a Call of Duty studio is being considered for work on Halo, though specific details about which studio is involved and what role it would play have not been confirmed. The report points to ongoing conversations within Microsoft about how best to support the Halo IP going forward.

Halo’s Development Future

Halo has been managed primarily by 343 Industries since Microsoft handed the series off from Bungie over a decade ago. The studio shipped Halo Infinite in late 2021 to a mixed reception, and the game has faced a complicated post-launch period. Bringing in an outside studio with a strong background in multiplayer shooter development could be one way Microsoft looks to stabilize and reinvigorate the franchise without replacing 343 Industries outright.

Microsoft now owns Activision Blizzard, giving it direct access to the teams that build and maintain the Call of Duty series. Those studios have long experience shipping large-scale, live-service shooters on tight schedules, which may be part of the reasoning behind any potential collaboration.

What It Could Mean for Both Franchises

If a Call of Duty studio does get involved with Halo, it would represent one of the more significant cross-pollinations of development talent since the Activision Blizzard acquisition closed. Microsoft has said it wants to grow Halo as a franchise, and tapping studios that already operate within its portfolio would be a lower-risk path compared to building out 343 Industries further or contracting an outside party.

For now, this remains a report without official confirmation from Microsoft or any of the studios named. Fans of both franchises will be watching closely for any formal announcement that clarifies the scope and direction of Halo’s next chapter.
