Konami wants a new Silent Hill game on shelves every year, and producer Motoi Okamoto is already working to reassure fans that quantity will not come at the cost of quality. Speaking at Gamescom 2026, Okamoto confirmed the studio has multiple unannounced projects in development and believes the franchise can keep delivering meaningful new experiences.

Annual Releases Are the Goal

In an interview at Gamescom 2026, Okamoto told GamesRadar that Konami’s target is a steady yearly output for the series. “Our aim is to, hopefully, have an annual release of new games,” he said, adding that the company wants players to know that “more experiences” are coming and that they “will be able to provide positive kinds of surprises for players waiting for this for the series.” PC Gamer first reported the comments, while Video Games Chronicle also confirmed that Konami is working on “many” projects that have yet to be announced.

Keeping the Series Fresh Across New Settings

Okamoto acknowledged the risk of creative stagnation if the franchise stays locked to a single formula. “If we stay laser-focused on the same American setting, that would exhaust [narrative] possibilities, and also potentially cause fatigue for the playerbase,” he said. That thinking lines up with the approach taken on Silent Hill f, which moved the action away from the series’ traditional foggy American town into a different cultural and geographic setting. The game’s reception demonstrated that the franchise’s horror can survive and thrive outside its original backdrop.

At the same time, Okamoto pointed out that individual development teams still need to operate within storytelling frameworks and environments that suit their strengths, rather than chasing novelty for its own sake.

Why Fans Are Cautious

The announcement carries obvious appeal for Silent Hill supporters who spent years without a mainline entry, but an annual release schedule raises legitimate concerns. Silent Hill’s effectiveness as a horror series depends heavily on narrative weight, atmosphere, and psychological depth. Those elements are difficult to manufacture under production pressure, and the games industry has seen other franchises diluted by forced annual cycles. Okamoto’s reassurances are welcome, but the proof will sit with the games themselves once they begin arriving.

For now, Konami has not announced specific titles or release windows beyond what Okamoto described at Gamescom 2026. Fans will be watching closely to see whether the studio can match its ambitions with the careful, story-driven craft the series demands.
