Konami Eyes Second and Third Waves of Silent Hill Games
Konami is not done with Silent Hill. Producer Motoi Okamoto has confirmed the company is already mapping out future projects for the franchise, describing plans for “second and third waves” of releases beyond the titles already on shelves.
Relief, Then Forward Motion
Speaking to Famitsu, as reported by Eurogamer, Okamoto expressed satisfaction with how the first wave of new Silent Hill games landed with both critics and players. “All three titles we initially announced were able to be released successfully, so we’re relieved,” he said, adding that the positive reception left the team feeling satisfied with the results. But Okamoto made clear that crossing the finish line on the first wave was never the end goal. “Successfully launching this ‘first wave’ comes with great relief, but we’re not stopping here; we must think of the second and third waves,” he told Famitsu. He declined to share project specifics but confirmed Konami is actively reviewing “a number of projects.”
Convincing the Higher-Ups
Okamoto also offered a candid look at the internal push required to keep the franchise moving. According to Eurogamer, he hinted that persuading Konami executives to commit to more than one remake was part of his job as producer. “As a producer, I cannot let it end only with that,” he said, suggesting that a single release would have raised fears that development was being shut down again, referencing the franchise’s long dormancy before its 2022 revival.
Where the Franchise Stands Now
Konami relaunched Silent Hill in a major way in 2022, announcing Silent Hill 2 Remake, Silent Hill f, Silent Hill: Townfall, Silent Hill Ascension, and a new film all at once, with Silent Hill: The Short Message arriving as a surprise shadow drop shortly after. Silent Hill: Townfall, the most recent release, earned four out of five stars from Eurogamer, which described it as “an often phenomenal ride; reverent to its roots, rich with ideas, and yes, properly unnerving too.”
Okamoto has previously credited the franchise’s comeback to keeping a strong psychological horror narrative at the center of every project, while allowing creative flexibility in gameplay style. That philosophy is visible across the current lineup, where Silent Hill 2 Remake, Silent Hill f, and Silent Hill: Townfall each take a distinct approach to mechanics while sharing tonal DNA. Looking ahead, Eurogamer notes that Bloober Team, the studio behind the Silent Hill 2 Remake, is already at work on a remake of the original Silent Hill, which Konami announced in June 2025.
