Playground Games has confirmed that Forza Horizon 6 is still headed to PlayStation 5 before the end of 2025, settling speculation that the release may have been quietly shelved amid significant shifts in Xbox’s platform strategy.

No Delay, No Cancellation

When Forza Horizon 6 launched on Xbox Series X/S and PC, Xbox stated that a PS5 version would follow post-launch. Since then, Xbox reversed its broader multiplatform push, opting instead to assess exclusivity on a title-by-title basis. That policy shift led many players to wonder whether the PS5 version of Forza Horizon 6 had been silently dropped. According to Video Games Chronicle, Xbox had previously committed to honoring all previously announced multiplatform releases, and the studio is now making that commitment explicit. A statement posted to the game’s official website reads: “Forza Horizon 6 will be releasing on PS5 later this year, and you can add the game to your Wishlist on the PlayStation Store to be notified of availability.” As Eurogamer notes, while the developer confirmed there has been no delay, it still has not specified an exact release date for the PS5 version.

What’s at Stake for Microsoft

The PS5 launch carries real commercial weight. Video Games Chronicle reports that Forza Horizon 5, which arrived on PS5 more than four years after its original Xbox debut, sold over 5 million copies on Sony’s platform alone. That figure gives Microsoft a strong financial incentive to bring its successor to PlayStation audiences sooner rather than later. VGC’s own review of Forza Horizon 6 described it as “an essential racing game” and said Playground Games had outdone itself compared to Forza Horizon 5.

British Automotive Update Arrives September 10

Alongside the PS5 confirmation, Playground Games is moving forward with the game’s next major content update. Launching September 10, the British Automotive update introduces a new permanent race type called Drift Attack. The mode works similarly to Drift Zones but places specific points along a track where players can earn bonus points for sustained drifts. The update continues the game’s live-service content cadence as the studio works toward the PS5 release.
