Master of Orion: Revenge of Antares Race Pack is the primary premium downloadable content (DLC) expansion pack for the science-fiction turn-based strategy 4X video game Master of Orion: Conquer the Stars. Developed by NGD Studios and published by Wargaming Labs, the expansion pack launched on December 1, 2016, for Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Linux.

The structural purpose of the Race Pack was to bridge the gap between the reboot’s modernized presentation and the deep strategic nostalgia of the franchise’s history.

While the baseline 2016 reboot launched exclusively with the ten original factions of the 1993 client, this expansion officially resurrects the three iconic asymmetric civilizations that originally debuted in 1996’s legendary Master of Orion II: Battle at Antares.

Each faction is integrated into the modern engine with unique 3D animated emperors, customized advisors, distinct ship hull designs, and fully voiced Hollywood narrative loops.

The Three Resurrected Civilizations

The expansion updates the global setup pool by introducing three highly distinct, mechanically specialized alien cultures:

1. The Elerian Fiefdoms

Hailing from the archipelago world of Draconis, the Elerians are a deeply insular, feudal civilization operating under a rigid caste system and absolute gender roles. Elerian society dictates that only females may enter military and political life, leaving their empire to be governed by an elite Grand Marshal.

Conversely, males are entirely restricted to the academic forums, forming a specialized Philosopher caste dedicated to pushing the race’s biological telepathic abilities to extreme thresholds.

  • Gameplay Style: A hyper-aggressive, information-dominant faction. The Elerians start the match with a passive trait called Omni-Dimensional Sight, completely lifting the fog of war across every single star system node on the galactic map from Turn 1.
  • Tactical Advantage: Their telepathic attributes grant a massive bonus to espionage defense, while enabling their fleets to use Mind Control to instantly capture enemy worlds upon winning orbital space battles, completely bypassing the need to manufacture or transport ground troops.

2. The Gnolam League

The Gnolam League is a tightly knit confederacy of plutocratic space merchants, corporate moneylenders, and cutthroat trade syndicates originating from the Gnol system. Governed by a rotating executive Commodore, Gnolam culture values material wealth and trade margins above all else, frequently choosing to financially bribe or buy off an approaching military threat rather than fighting them on open tiles.

  • Gameplay Style: A macroeconomic juggernaut designed for high-density wealth generation. Gnolams inherit the Wealthy trait, multiplying the gross tax and energy currency generated by their citizens across all colonies.
  • The Luck Factor: To replicate their classic 90s design, Gnolams possess the Lucky trait. The game engine automatically shields Gnolam territory from experiencing devastating, randomized galactic natural disasters, while multiplying the spawn rate of highly positive random events (such as discovering hidden resource caches or welcoming elite heroes). This massive treasury focus allows them to instantly buy out production queues to manifest massive emergency fleets at a moment’s notice.

3. The Trilarian Shoal

An eerie, deeply religious aquatic civilization that dwells within the subterranean ocean depths of the planet Trilar. The Shoal is governed under the absolute authority of The Stinger—a figure who functions as half-dictator and half-messianic religious godhead.

While the Trilarians are generally peaceful, diplomatic, and willing to co-exist with alien neighbors, their entire society worships ancient, terrifying deep-sea deities. If their tentacled prophets declare that an international treaty conflicts with the cryptic will of their old gods, the Shoal will instantly turn hostile, launching fanatical, unyielding military crusades across the stars.

  • Gameplay Style: Masters of maritime and spatial navigation. Trilarians possess the Aquatic trait, allowing them to transform otherwise useless ocean and swamp biomes into high-yield agricultural and industrial manufacturing havens.
  • Spatial Phasing: Their biological affinity with extra-dimensional forces grants them the Trans-Dimensional attribute, completely immunizing their spaceships from experiencing movement speed penalties when navigating through unstable warp wormholes or traversing constricted starlane highways.

The Free Dynamic Menace: The Antaran Revenge

While the Race Pack itself was deployed as a premium purchase to unlock the three playable factions, its launch explicitly coincided with Patch 1.2, a massive, free structural baseline update rolled out to all owners of Conquer the Stars titled Revenge of Antares.

This update systematically reintroduced the franchise’s core historical antagonist into the game loops: The Antarans.

The Antarans operate as a non-playable, hyper-technological AI entity driven by absolute galactic retribution. Throughout a match, regardless of ongoing human or AI diplomatic treaties, the space engine will periodically trigger catastrophic Antaran Rifts across random coordinates.

Massive, heavily shielded Antaran war fleets—sporting custom weapon configurations and automated doom stars—will exit the rift to launch sudden, devastating orbital sieges against random colonies.

To survive this threat, rival factions are forced to coordinate their borders, utilizing the World Congress to vote on global defense initiatives. Advanced players can capture shattered Antaran technology wreckage after space battles to reverse-engineer unique ship modules, eventually pooling their industrial manufacturing to construct a Dimensional Portal to launch a high-stakes counter-invasion directly into the Antaran homeworld.

Modern Strategy Preservation (2026 Status)

As of May 2026, the Revenge of Antares Race Pack is recognized as a vital, highly integrated addition that successfully restored the missing mechanical variety and historical diversity of Master of Orion II directly into the 2016 Unity engine framework.

The expansion is universally distributed across major digital distribution channels, including Steam and GOG.com, for a standard retail add-on price of $7.99. For modern players entering the franchise, the DLC is natively bundled out-of-the-box inside the definitive Master of Orion: Complete Collection digital installer.

Because the expansion pack layers directly over the game’s modern 64-bit architecture, it executes with total performance stability on Windows 11 and current macOS setups.

Within the contemporary 4X community, the game is actively kept alive through the WhatIsSol Unofficial Community Patch (UCP), a comprehensive open-source mod framework that actively receives updates. The UCP patch seamlessly integrates with the Revenge of Antares code, heavily debugging the computer’s tactical AI algorithms to make the Gnolams, Elerians, and Trilarians leverage their psychic and economic traits with cutthroat efficiency during high-difficulty matches, while scaling the animated 3D advisors and vibrant alien fleets flawlessly up to native 4K display configurations.
