Witcher 3 Songs of the Past: Where Letten Sits on the Map
Fool’s Theory world director Peter Gelencser has finally given players a precise geographic fix on Letten, the new open-world region at the center of The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past, and the location places the expansion surprisingly close to Kovir, the confirmed setting of The Witcher 4.
How to Find Letten on the Map
Gelencser spelled out the directions during a CD Projekt Red Gamescom stream, telling viewers to head to the Gulf of Praxeda, follow the Buina river east, then turn right onto the Nimnar river. Letten sits on the southern shore of the Nimnar, somewhere in the northern reaches of Redania. As Eurogamer notes, that puts the region roughly near Gelibol and not far from Blaviken, the village that earned Geralt his “Butcher of Blaviken” reputation. The short version, per Gelencser himself: it is in the north.
That northern placement is notable because it also means Letten sits relatively close to Kovir, where The Witcher 4 is set. The region is a considerable distance from the southern Redanian and Temerian locations players explored in the base game and its previous expansions.
What Kind of Place Is Letten?
Letten is Dandelion’s birthplace, and Fool’s Theory vision director Karolina Kuzia-Rokosz described it as a calm, idyllic area inspired by Polish countryside. The expansion arrives in spring during the end-of-winter festival Belleteyn, so the environment is green and blooming, with crisp morning light cutting through the vegetation. Gameplay footage shown during the stream confirms the colorful tone. A grand country manor belonging to Dandelion’s family is visible in screenshots, offering a peek at the bard’s privileged roots.
That pastoral surface hides a darker underbelly, Gelencser confirmed, though details on the conflict driving the story remain under wraps. GamesRadar reports that CDPR describes Letten as a fully realized open world with quests and NPCs built to match the studio’s mature storytelling standard.
Story Picks Up After Blood and Wine
Kuzia-Rokosz confirmed that Songs of the Past begins right after the events of Blood and Wine. Geralt hoped to settle into retirement at Corvo Bianco, but a new adventure pulls him north to Letten. GamesRadar describes the expansion as Geralt’s new final chapter, building on what made the base RPG work and pushing it further. GameSpot adds that the expansion addresses at least one significant issue carried over from the original game, though specifics are still emerging from Gamescom coverage.
