Majesty 2: Monster Kingdom
DLC for Majesty 2: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim
PC
1C-SoftClub, Paradox Interactive
Majesty 2: Monster Kingdom is the final major expansion for the 3D indirect-control strategy sequel, representing the most radical shift in the series’ history. Published by Paradox Interactive, this installment completely subverts the traditional “Sovereign” formula by stripping the player of their human kingdom. Instead of enticing noble knights and wizards, you are forced into an unlikely alliance with the very creatures you once hunted, leading a kingdom of monsters to reclaim Ardania from a new, “holy” usurper.
The Great Role Reversal
The defining feature of Monster Kingdom is the total replacement of the standard hero roster with monster equivalents. After being exiled from the palace, the King must utilize “indirect control” to manage a society of traditionally antagonistic creatures.
- Monster Guilds: Traditional guilds are replaced by dens and lairs, allowing you to recruit units such as Goblins, Orcs, Ratmen, and Liches.
- Inverse Economy: While the circular economy remains—where units earn gold from bounties and spend it in your structures—the buildings themselves are redesigned to reflect monster culture, such as the “Goblin Casino” or specialized beast markets.
- A New Threat: Instead of fighting monsters, your primary adversaries are now the “Heroes of Good,” including self-righteous Paladins and powerful Mages who seek to purge your monster kingdom.
Campaign and Content Scale
Monster Kingdom serves as the conclusion to the Majesty 2 saga, contributing to a combined total of over 40 missions across the base game and its three expansions.
- The Exile’s Revenge: The new campaign follows the King’s journey to unite the disparate monster tribes and build a force capable of storming the capital.
- Increased Complexity: As with previous expansions, Monster Kingdom maintains a high difficulty level, requiring players to understand the unique AI behaviors and needs of their new monster subjects.
- Tiered Progression: Monster units follow a progression system similar to human heroes, with basic Tier 1 goblins eventually giving way to Tier 3 “super-monsters” capable of challenging the most powerful holy knights.
Key Features
- Playable Monster Factions — Take command of the “wild side” of Ardania, recruiting once-hostile creatures to your cause.
- Unique Hero Classes — Master the abilities of specialized monster types, including the agile Ratman, the sturdy Orc, and the magically gifted Lich.
- Thematic Infrastructure — Build and upgrade an entirely new set of structures tailored to a monstrous workforce.
- Concluding Narrative — Finish the story of the Great Ruler in a campaign that flips the series’ perspective on its head.
- Deep Strategic Layer — Manage the volatile personalities and needs of monsters who are just as independent and greedy as the heroes they replaced.
- Part of the Collection — Now available as the final chapter in the Majesty 2 Collection.
Summary
Majesty 2: Monster Kingdom is a bold experiment that successfully breathed new life into the franchise by reversing its core conflict. By allowing players to see Ardania through the eyes of its monsters, it provided a fresh mechanical and narrative perspective while maintaining the series’ signature “indirect control” and dark humor. It stands as the definitive “Monster King Sim,” closing the book on the Majesty 2 era with a chaotic and challenging role-reversal.
