Iron Harvest: Rusviet Revolution is the first story-driven DLC expansion for KING Art Games’ 2020 dieselpunk RTS, Iron Harvest. Released in December 2020, just a few months after the base game, this add-on was designed to flesh out the lore of the 1920+ universe, specifically diving into the chaotic, bloody internal politics of the Rusviet Union.

Unlike the massive Operation Eagle expansion (which would release a year later and introduce an entirely new playable faction and air units), Rusviet Revolution is strictly a mini-campaign. It does not fundamentally alter the multiplayer meta or introduce wildly new mechanics; instead, it serves as a focused, narrative-heavy epilogue to the events of the main game.

The Narrative: A Dieselpunk Uprising

The storyline draws heavy inspiration from the real-world Russian Revolution but twists it through the lens of Jakub Różalski’s alternate-history universe and the machinations of the shadowy terrorist organization, Fenris.

The Tsar of the Rusviet Union, Nikolay, has been clinging to power, but the prolonged, devastating wars have left his people starving, exhausted, and furious. Seizing this opportunity, the enigmatic and deeply sinister Grigori Rasputin steps into the power vacuum. Operating as a high-ranking agent of Fenris, Rasputin stokes the fires of rebellion, manipulating the working class to violently overthrow the Tsar.

Players do not just play as the loyalists; the campaign tasks you with navigating this brutal civil war. You must fight through the snowy, war-torn streets, dealing with the terrifying reality of a massive superpower collapsing in on itself while colossal, flamethrower-wielding mechs tear through the city squares.

Gameplay and Content Additions

Because it is a story add-on rather than a mechanical overhaul, Rusviet Revolution relies entirely on the established, tactical Company of Heroes-style combat of the base game.

Key content inclusions:

  • Four New Campaign Missions: The DLC adds a seamless, four-mission narrative arc. These missions are heavily scripted, featuring unique objectives, cinematic cutscenes, and the signature massive, set-piece battles the base game is known for.
  • Full Co-Op Support: Just like the three main campaigns of the base game, the entire Rusviet Revolution storyline can be played in two-player drop-in/drop-out cooperative multiplayer, allowing you and a friend to split the micromanagement of your infantry and mechs.
  • No New Factions: The DLC focuses entirely on utilizing the existing Rusviet roster. You will be commanding the familiar, rugged, close-quarters Rusviet mechs (like the massive Gulyay-Gorod and the dual-sickle-wielding Serp) to crush the opposition.

Development and Legacy

Released in late 2020, Rusviet Revolution was a highly appreciated gift to the game’s core community. In fact, KING Art Games released the DLC completely free of charge to all Kickstarter backers and owners of the Deluxe Edition as a massive “thank you” for funding the game’s development, while making it a very low-cost standalone purchase for standard edition owners.

While it didn’t reinvent the wheel, it provided a highly satisfying, challenging chunk of single-player content that tied up the loose narrative threads regarding Rasputin and the fate of the Rusviet Tsar. It served as the perfect appetizer before the developers completely broke the game open with the introduction of flying airships in the Operation Eagle expansion the following year.

Today, the easiest way to experience this chapter is through the Iron Harvest: Complete Edition, which bundles the base game, the Rusviet Revolution, and Operation Eagle into one massive, definitive package.

Key Features:

  • The Fall of the Tsar — Experience an alternate-history retelling of the Russian Revolution, complete with dieselpunk mechs and the sinister machinations of Rasputin.
  • Four New Operations — Fight through a focused, challenging four-mission mini-campaign dedicated entirely to the Rusviet civil war.
  • Two-Player Co-Op — Tackle the brutal, tactical urban warfare alongside a friend with fully integrated cooperative support.
  • Close-Quarters Brutality — Utilize the heavy, rugged, flamethrower-heavy arsenal of the Rusviet Union to break enemy trench lines.
  • The Complete Package — Readily available today as part of the Iron Harvest: Complete Edition across modern PC and console storefronts.

Release Platforms:

  • Microsoft Windows (PC) — December 17, 2020
  • PlayStation 5 & Xbox Series X|S — October 26, 2021 (Included natively in the release of the Complete Edition).
