PS5 Emulators Now Run 6 Games at 60 FPS, Demon’s Souls Closing In

PS5 emulation has crossed a milestone that would have seemed far-fetched even a year ago: six games are now listed as fully playable at 60 frames per second across the two leading projects in this space, and a high-profile AAA title is inching toward playable territory faster than most expected.

Where Things Stand With SharpEmu and KytyPS5

The two most active PS5 emulator projects right now are SharpEmu and KytyPS5, each maintaining public compatibility lists for tested titles. A SharpEmu developer known as Scarecrow reported via GamesRadar that out of 55 tested games, 12 can now reach in-game states, with 6 of those running at a full 60 FPS. The games hitting that mark are mostly smaller releases and retro compilations, with the Tomb Raider 4-6 Remastered package among the confirmed examples.

It is worth being direct about the current limitations: neither emulator is a practical way to play PS5 games today. Users can still expect bugs, visual artifacts, and performance drops even in the small pool of titles that load at all. Still, the pace of progress is hard to dismiss.

Demon’s Souls Is the Headline Act on KytyPS5

KytyPS5 has drawn attention for getting Demon’s Souls, the 2020 remake from Bluepoint Games, running at 30 FPS a few weeks ago. More recently, users have posted footage of the same game running between 40 and 50 FPS. The catch is that reaching those frame rates requires an RTX 5090 paired with an Intel Core i9-14900K, hardware that sits at the extreme high end of the consumer market. The PS5 version of Demon’s Souls offers a 60 FPS performance mode, so there is still a gap, but the trajectory is steep.

Scarecrow acknowledged the KytyPS5 achievement openly, saying the progress on that emulator was both impressive and humbling given that Demon’s Souls has been a personal milestone for the SharpEmu project. Astro Bot has also been demonstrated running at up to 30 FPS through KytyPS5, according to GamesRadar.

AI Is Accelerating Development, With Guardrails

One factor driving PS5 emulation forward faster than previous console generations is the use of AI tools during development. Both projects permit AI assistance for research, reverse engineering, and code generation, though both also require that any contributor be able to fully explain AI-assisted code before it is accepted. That distinction matters: the RPCS3 team, which handles PS3 emulation, was publicly asking contributors to stop submitting low-quality AI-generated code just months ago. The PS5 emulation projects appear to be threading that needle more carefully, at least for now.
