Infinity Ward has deployed the first update to the Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer beta, targeting some of the loudest complaints from opening day, including overpowered footstep audio, weapon lethality, and limited map options. The patch also brings two pieces of new content to the rotation.

Footsteps Turned Down, Weapons Rebalanced

According to Eurogamer, player feedback on footstep volume was one of the dominant conversations after day one of the beta, and Infinity Ward moved quickly to address it. The studio reduced both the audible range and the overall volume of enemy footstep and gear audio. The stated goal is to let movement sounds signal that an opponent is nearby without pinpointing their exact location from across the map.

Weapon balance also received attention. The ISO Nightshade SMG and the Oris 8.6 marksman rifle both had their damage ranges and headshot multipliers reduced after the studio agreed that time-to-kill was sitting too high. Infinity Ward noted these are opening adjustments, with more weapon tuning expected as additional data and feedback comes in throughout the beta period. The Frangible Rounds attachment also saw its slow duration cut by roughly 27 percent and its slow magnitude reduced by around 21 percent.

New Map and Mode Join the Rotation

A new map called Cachette and a new mode called Inflation have been added to multiplayer, as reported by Eurogamer. Inflation is a cash-based mode where players earn money by eliminating enemies and taking down HVT operators to steal their collected funds. Once a player accumulates enough cash to top the leaderboard, they become a marked target that every other player can hunt. Surviving into overtime grants increased cash multipliers.

Cachette’s arrival also pushed the total map count to four, which Infinity Ward said was the minimum needed to activate map voting. That feature is now live as part of this update. The existing map Transit 213 also received a visual pass, with shadowed areas brightened and overall color balance adjusted to improve visibility.

Bug Fixes and Remaining Issues

The patch covers a long list of bug fixes, including problems with Mobility Course completion, wet-surface footstep sounds playing on dry ground, magnified optics appearing opaque when aiming down sights, and various errors tied to controller reconnection and front-end menu navigation. Seeker Drone disconnects and looping lobby animations for party members have also been resolved. Daily Challenge rerolling has been enabled as well.

A handful of problems remain open. Join in progress is still temporarily disabled on Kill Block, and cooking lethal equipment can still cause frame rate drops on some systems. Infinity Ward said both issues are actively being worked on. PC players encountering access problems were pointed toward the Secure Attestation Wizard, which the studio said not only diagnoses issues but also attempts to fix them automatically.
