A live-action Cyberpunk 2077 movie is in active development at Paramount, with CD Projekt Red signed on as a co-producer and Lorenzo di Bonaventura producing alongside the studio, according to reporting first surfaced by Deadline and picked up by outlets including IGN and GamesRadar.

Who Is Making It

Di Bonaventura is the producer whose credits include every live-action Transformers film and, less flatteringly, the 2005 Dwayne Johnson-led Doom adaptation, a film that has not aged into anyone’s list of classics. He is also attached to Madame Web. No director has been announced for the Cyberpunk project yet, and story details remain under wraps, as noted by Video Games Chronicle and TechRaptor. Paramount is itself in the middle of a merger with Skydance, which adds a layer of corporate complexity to where this production ultimately lands.

What CD Projekt Red Has Said

Co-CEO Michal Nowakowski issued a brief statement expressing enthusiasm for the partnership. “We’re excited about Paramount as a future partner who shares our creative ambitions for the Cyberpunk franchise. We look forward to sharing more details at the appropriate time,” he said, per Rock Paper Shotgun. That statement is essentially all the studio has offered publicly so far, leaving casting and plot entirely open to speculation.

Casting Speculation and the Keanu Question

The game already features high-profile talent in Keanu Reeves and Idris Elba, which has fueled immediate speculation about whether either could carry over into the film. Elba has previously indicated interest in a live-action adaptation alongside Reeves, and both actors share screen time in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, also a Paramount production, making the connection at least logistically plausible. GameSpot and Insider Gaming both flagged the project in the context of Paramount’s broader push into game adaptations, which also includes properties like Mortal Kombat and a range of IP inherited through its Warner Bros. dealings. Gematsu has additional details on the announcement as it developed.

A Crowded Field of Adaptations

The Cyberpunk 2077 film joins a long and growing queue of video game properties being converted into screen content, often with the explicit goal of feeding streaming platforms. Whether this project rises above that pattern will depend heavily on the creative team attached once a director is confirmed. For now, the combination of an untested script situation and a producer whose track record skews toward spectacle over substance gives cautious observers plenty of reason to wait and see.
