Control Resonant Hits 1 Million Sales in 3 Weeks, Remedy’s Fastest Ever
Remedy Entertainment has announced that Control Resonant sold one million copies within three weeks of launch, making it the fastest-selling title in the studio’s 31-year history and pushing past Alan Wake 2 to claim that record.
A New High-Water Mark for Remedy
According to PC Gamer, Remedy shared the milestone on October 15, 2026, accompanied by a message thanking players for their support. The previous record-holder, Alan Wake 2, took two months to reach the same figure when it launched in 2023. The original Control moved more slowly still, cementing Control Resonant as a meaningful step forward for the studio’s commercial performance.
Context matters here, though. As Push Square notes, Control Resonant reached that number during one of the most competitive release windows in recent memory. Remedy’s achievement carries extra weight given the crowded field it launched into.
How It Stacks Up Against the Wider Market
Three weeks to a million copies is a record for Remedy, but the broader industry has seen faster movers lately. PC Gamer points out that The Blood of Dawnwalker hit the mark in three days, Wardogs managed it in a single day, and Subnautica 2 sold two million copies in just 12 hours. Still, Remedy has historically built its reputation on critically acclaimed, artistically bold work rather than blockbuster opening weekends, which makes this result notable for the studio specifically.
| Game | Time to 1 Million Copies |
|---|---|
| Control Resonant | 3 weeks |
| Alan Wake 2 | 2 months |
| The Blood of Dawnwalker | 3 days |
| Wardogs | 1 day |
| Subnautica 2 | 12 hours (2 million) |
Profitability Remains the Real Target
Sales records alone do not tell the full story at Remedy. Alan Wake 2 took over a year and two million copies sold before the studio turned a profit on it, a gap that shaped the company’s priorities heading into 2026. Jean-Charles Gaudechon, who became Remedy’s CEO in February, was brought in specifically to steer the company toward what chairman Henri Osterlund described as “profitable growth.”
Gaudechon called the one million milestone “a very strong start” and noted that Control Resonant is Remedy’s first self-published release at this scale. “We see the game connecting with long-time fans while bringing a significant number of new players into the world of Control,” he said, adding that the studio views both Control and Alan Wake as established franchises with room to expand further. Remedy’s Q3 business review is expected to give a clearer picture of whether the stronger sales pace is translating into actual profit.
