Commodore Returns to Publishing with Alien Breed 35th Anniversary Collection

Commodore is making its return to game publishing with the Alien Breed 35th Anniversary Collection, a package of all six original Amiga shooters coming to modern platforms on September 24. The announcement marks the retro hardware brand’s first publishing venture and centers on one of the most celebrated franchises from the Amiga era.

What’s in the Collection

According to GamesRadar, the collection packages together every mainline entry in the series, starting with the 1991 original and running through to Alien Breed 3D II. The games trace the full arc of Team17’s Alien-inspired run on Amiga hardware across the early-to-mid 1990s. Ports of some entries have existed on GOG as MS-DOS versions, but a unified modern collection covering all six has not been available until now.

Platforms and Partners

The collection is set to launch September 24 on PS5, Xbox, Switch, and PC. GamesRadar reports that Commodore worked with Antstream, a studio typically known for its Antstream Arcade streaming service, on the porting side of the project. No internet connection will be required to play the collection.

Commodore’s Publishing Comeback

Commodore CEO Christian Simpson, also known as Peri Fractic, spoke about the project in a press release. “Alien Breed is the reason a lot of us stayed up way too late as kids, creeping through those corridors with the motion tracker beeping and no idea what was waiting around the corner,” Simpson said. He also credited the original developers, noting that “Team17 built something that still holds up without any nostalgia required, and bringing all six games together in one place, running the way they were meant to run, felt like exactly the right project to launch Commodore back into publishing.”

As GamesRadar notes, this is the same Commodore behind the Commodore 64 Ultimate and a planned C64C remake. The outlet also points out that the company recently secured a deal that makes releasing Amiga-related software less legally complicated, which helps explain why this publishing push is happening now. Whether more Amiga titles follow remains to be seen, but the Alien Breed collection signals that Commodore’s ambitions extend beyond hardware.
