Ghost of Yotei Gets 30GB Update Ahead of Complete Edition Launch

Ghost of Yotei players on PS5 were caught off guard this week when their consoles automatically downloaded a roughly 29GB patch for the open-world samurai adventure, with several features bundled inside already going live ahead of the game’s scheduled Complete Edition launch on October 1, 2026.

What the Patch Actually Contains

According to Push Square, the update is not an early release of the Echoes of Sekigahara expansion. Instead, Sucker Punch appears to have pushed out the patch to prepare the game’s infrastructure for the Complete Edition content arriving at the start of next month. Think of it as laying the groundwork rather than flipping the main switch.

Three specific additions have already been confirmed as active by players. The first is Beauty of Yotei, a world showcase mode accessible directly from the main menu that moves the camera through various locations using slow cinematic framing and music designed to highlight the setting’s atmosphere. The second is transmog support, which allows players to apply the visual appearance of one weapon or piece of armor to another item while keeping the stats of their actual equipped gear. The third is the addition of trophy lists for both the Echoes of Sekigahara expansion and a mode called Most Wanted, which have appeared on PS5 ahead of the content itself going live.

What Players Are Saying

Push Square readers have responded positively to the surprise drop, with some noting they plan to replay the game once the full expansion arrives and others flagging that the Complete Edition upgrade is available to preorder on the PlayStation Store at $14.99. Players who already own Ghost of Yotei can take the Beauty of Yotei showcase mode and transmog system for a spin right now while waiting for Echoes of Sekigahara to unlock on October 1.
