Behaviour Interactive has spoken out about Chucky’s pending exit from Dead by Daylight, telling fans that the Child’s Play killer’s departure on November 24, 2026 is a licensing matter and not a permanent goodbye for the franchise.

Why Chucky Is Leaving the Fog

As IGN reports, the studio sent a statement clarifying that its preference is always to keep licensed content in the game indefinitely. That goal, however, is not always achievable. “Our goal is always to keep licenses in our game forever,” Behaviour said. “When they have to go away, it’s because, despite our best efforts, it wasn’t possible to retain them.” Chucky follows Pinhead and Michael Myers out of the storefront, both of whom were removed in the period leading up to this latest announcement.

The Chucky Chapter will stop being available for purchase after November 24, 2026, but players who already own the Good Guy, his perks, or any related cosmetics will keep full access to that content. That policy mirrors how Behaviour handled previous removals, ensuring that spending money on a licensed character does not become a loss for existing owners.

The Door Stays Open for Returning Icons

Behaviour was direct in reassuring the community that losing a license does not close the door on a franchise forever. “Dead by Daylight will always be gaming’s House of Horror, and horror icons will continue to have an open invitation to join, or rejoin, us in the Fog,” the studio said in its statement to IGN. The Child’s Play, Halloween, and Hellraiser franchises all fall under that standing invitation, according to Behaviour.

A precedent for returns already exists in the game’s history. The Stranger Things collaboration, which included the playable Demogorgon, was pulled from stores in November 2021 and then brought back two years later in November 2023, demonstrating that a removal does not have to be permanent.

What’s Coming to Dead by Daylight Next

While one iconic horror figure heads for the exit, others are stepping in. According to IGN, Terrifier’s Art the Clown is set to enter Dead by Daylight next month, and Friday the 13th’s Jason Voorhees was added to the roster back in June. Behaviour celebrated the game’s 10th anniversary this past summer with a broadcast that outlined several upcoming additions and changes for the asymmetrical horror title.

No timeline has been given for when Chucky or the Child’s Play license might return, but Behaviour’s statement makes clear the studio intends to keep its roster as expansive and varied as possible within the limits of what licensing negotiations allow.
