A fresh pair has landed on the Epic Games Store. Beacon Pines, a “cute and creepy” storybook mystery, and We Were Here Together, a co-op puzzle adventure built entirely around communication, are both free to claim until August 13, 2026. Combined, the pair carries a regular value of roughly $33.

They replace last week’s giveaway of OTXO and Sol Cesto, which ended earlier today. Once claimed, both new titles stay in your library permanently, whether you install them right away or not.

How to Claim Them

  1. Go to the Epic Games Store free games page, or open the Epic Games Launcher.
  2. Find Beacon Pines or We Were Here Together.
  3. Click “Get” and complete the free checkout.
  4. Repeat for the second game.

The deadline is August 13, 2026 at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET. After that, both return to their regular prices.

Beacon Pines: A Storybook Where Words Rewrite Reality

Developer: Hiding Spot Games  |  Publisher: Fellow Traveller  |  Released: September 2022  |  Regular price: $19.99

Beacon Pines casts players as both the reader of a storybook and Luka, a young deer boy whose mother has mysteriously disappeared. Something strange is happening around the old warehouse in his hometown, and Luka and his friends seem to be the only ones who’ve noticed.

The game’s signature mechanic is its charm system. As Luka investigates, he collects golden charms, each engraved with a word. At key turning points in the story, players can slot one of these charms into a blank space in the narrative, and that single word choice can send the entire story down a completely different path. The structure is presented visually as The Chronicle, a branching story tree that grows and reshapes itself as choices accumulate, letting players jump back to explore alternate versions of events they’ve already lived through.

What starts as a cozy coming-of-age mystery takes noticeably darker turns as it goes, something reviewers have consistently praised while trying hard not to spoil. It holds a “Strong” 81 on OpenCritic from 37 critics, with 86% recommending it, and an 83 Metascore. GameWatcher and multiple other outlets have drawn comparisons to Night in the Woods and Oxenfree, citing the emotional writing and the charm mechanic’s ability to make replays reveal new material rather than just repeat the same scenes. Most players finish the main story in around 4 to 6 hours.

We Were Here Together: Two Players, One Walkie-Talkie Each

Developer / Publisher: Total Mayhem Games  |  Released: July 2022  |  Regular price: $12.99

The third entry in the We Were Here series, We Were Here Together drops two players into a frozen Antarctic outpost with nothing but their wits and a walkie-talkie each. Split apart almost immediately, both players explore separate spaces filled with puzzles that neither one can solve alone; success depends entirely on describing what you’re seeing accurately enough for your partner to act on it.

This is a mandatory co-op experience. There is no solo mode, and the game requires a working microphone for both players, since verbal communication is the entire mechanic. Compared to its predecessors, We Were Here and We Were Here Too, this entry expands the scope considerably: bigger levels, more intricate multi-stage puzzles, and a longer campaign spanning ten chapters, all wrapped in a deeper narrative told mostly through environmental details rather than cutscenes.

Reception has been strong from a player standpoint. It carries an 83/100 Player Score on Steambase from nearly 17,000 reviews (Very Positive), and a 77 Metascore, with GameWatcher calling it a must-play for fans of co-op adventures and challenging puzzles despite some matchmaking quirks. Critic scores have been more mixed on OpenCritic, sitting at a 67 average, largely due to occasional technical hiccups and puzzle difficulty spikes that can frustrate less experienced pairs. If you’ve got a reliable co-op partner and enjoy escape-room logic, it’s widely considered one of the strongest entries in the genre.
