Battlestate Games Launches Publishing Label for Hardcore Shooters
Battlestate Games, the Russian studio that spent a decade building Escape from Tarkov into the defining extraction shooter, has announced the launch of its own publishing label. The news came during the FPS Games Show presentation hosted by BULKHEAD, positioning Battlestate as a new home for niche and uncompromising shooter projects that mainstream publishers routinely reject.
A Decade of Expertise Turned Outward
Battlestate built its reputation by sticking to a punishing, high-risk design philosophy that most major publishers would never greenlight. That same willingness to commit to difficult, hardcore experiences now forms the core pitch of the studio’s publishing arm. According to Insider Gaming, the company is already accepting submissions from development teams of any size, whether small independent outfits or larger studios looking for a partner with genuine genre credibility.
The studio has not yet disclosed which projects have been signed, keeping the specifics of its early publishing deals under wraps for now. What the announcement makes clear is that Battlestate sees an opening in the market: hardcore shooters often struggle to find backing because they carry higher commercial risk and appeal to a demanding audience. Battlestate’s argument is that its own history proves those projects can succeed.
Fragment and a Broader Expansion Push
The publishing announcement arrives alongside separate news about Battlestate’s creative reach. Studio head Nikita Buyanov has also announced Fragment, a science-fiction shooter currently in development at Rant Gaming, a new team made up of former Battlestate employees. Fragment is being built independently from Battlestate’s main operations, though the connection to the studio’s veteran talent is a clear part of the project’s identity.
Together, the publishing label and Fragment signal that Battlestate is moving beyond being a single-game studio. Rather than focusing entirely on Escape from Tarkov’s ongoing development, the company is spreading its resources and network across multiple fronts simultaneously.
What This Means for the Shooter Genre
The extraction shooter market that Escape from Tarkov essentially created has grown considerably more crowded in recent years, with competitors ranging from large studio productions to smaller experimental titles. Battlestate stepping into publishing gives the genre’s originator a direct hand in shaping what comes next, at least for the games it chooses to support.
For developers working on shooters that sit outside mainstream tastes, the label offers a potential path to market with a partner that has direct experience surviving and thriving in exactly that space. Whether that translates into a reliable pipeline of notable releases will depend on which projects Battlestate chooses to reveal in the months ahead.
