Sinner: Sacrifice for Redemption is a 2018 boss-rush action RPG developed by Dark Star Game Studios and published by Another Indie, released October 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch. It reviewed around the 70 mark on aggregate — a compact experiment remembered for one genuinely novel inversion of Souls logic: instead of growing stronger between bosses, you get weaker.

Before each of the game’s eight fights — one per deadly sin — the disgraced soldier Adam must permanently sacrifice something: max health, healing charges, weapon damage, defense. Beat all seven sins and the final fight arrives with every debuff stacked at once.

Seven Sins, Stacked Debuffs

The structure strips the Souls formula to bosses alone — no exploration, no leveling, just a hub and eight arenas, in the lineage of Titan Souls and Furi. The sacrifice system turns fight order into the real strategy layer: which handicap you can live with longest defines your route, and community discussion of optimal sacrifice orders became the game’s most durable conversation. Reviews credited the concept and the sin-themed boss designs while finding the combat underneath serviceable rather than sharp — stiff animations and a short runtime kept scores in “interesting curio” territory rather than essential.

Where to Play It Today

Sinner: Sacrifice for Redemption remains available on Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch, almost permanently discounted into the $3–5 range — a fair price for an evening-length experiment whose central idea no bigger Soulslike has dared to copy since.
