Revelations 2012 is a 2012 co-op first-person shooter developed by the small studio Dark Artz Entertainment and released on April 23, 2012, for PC (Windows via Steam). It is a free-to-play title that capitalizes on the 2012 Mayan apocalypse hype, framing the end of the world as predicted by ancient prophecy. The game blends Left 4 Dead-style horde survival with basic co-op shooting in a Mayan-inspired alternate dimension.

Core Story

Mayan prophecy foretells the beginning of a new world age on December 21, 2012, when civilization collapses in chaos. Four heroes are thrust into an alternate dimension filled with sweltering jungles and ancient Mayan ruins. They must battle hordes of evil foes, collect crystal skulls, defeat powerful minions, and stop the apocalypse from consuming humanity. The story is thin and serves mostly as an excuse for wave-based shooting and co-op mayhem, with occasional epic boss fights.

Gameplay and Features

Revelations 2012 is built as a simple co-op shooter with these core elements:

  • Horde Survival & Co-op: Up to 4 players (or AI bots) fight endless waves of enemies in jungle/Mayan-themed environments. Teamwork is encouraged for surviving swarms and solving basic puzzles.
  • Weapons & Progression: Modular alien weapon system that allows customization. Players collect resources and upgrades while battling.
  • Modes: Campaign-style levels with boss encounters, plus a 4v4 multiplayer “Battlegrounds” mode for competitive play.
  • Atmosphere: Low-budget Mayan/jungle setting with hordes of minions and some supernatural elements tied to the 2012 prophecy.

The game is short and repetitive, with gameplay that feels dated even for 2012. It was heavily criticized for ugly visuals, clunky combat, poor AI, and overall lack of polish. Many reviews and “WTF Is…” videos treat it as a hilarious “so-bad-it’s-good” experience rather than a serious shooter.

PC Version (2012, still available in 2026)

This is the only official version — no console ports (including Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation, or Xbox) were ever released. The game is free-to-play on Steam (app ID 201070) and remains downloadable in 2026. It runs on very low-spec hardware thanks to its age and Source Engine roots. Keyboard & mouse controls are standard for the FPS genre.

In 2026, player counts are extremely low (often single digits), so online co-op or Battlegrounds mode usually requires friends or private lobbies. Single-player with bots is possible but not ideal. The game has no major updates or remaster since launch, and it is frequently featured in “worst games” or ironic playthrough videos. Community feedback remains mixed-to-negative, with many calling it incompetent or unintentionally funny.

Quick Note

Revelations 2012 is a low-budget, cash-in title riding the 2012 Mayan doomsday wave. It tries to deliver Left 4 Dead-style co-op horde shooting in a Mayan jungle setting but falls short in almost every technical and design aspect. Today it is mostly remembered as a curiosity or meme game for its janky execution and timely (but failed) apocalypse theme.

If you’re into obscure “bad” games, ironic co-op sessions with friends, or just want to see a 2012 Mayan prophecy shooter for yourself, you can grab it for free on Steam. Otherwise, expectations should be very low — it’s a short, rough experience best approached for laughs rather than serious gameplay.

In short: Four heroes enter an alternate Mayan dimension to stop the 2012 apocalypse… with mixed results. “The end of days is coming — can you survive the hordes?” Free on Steam if you want to experience one of the more infamous budget shooters of its era.
