Where to buy
Planetary Annihilation: TITANS is a standalone expansion and definitive edition of the real-time strategy (RTS) video game Planetary Annihilation. Developed by Uber Entertainment and currently maintained by Planetary Annihilation Inc, the game was released on August 18, 2015, for Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Linux.
The game expands upon the base title’s multi-planet, streaming-economy framework by introducing multi-level terrain mapping, a streamlined tutorial experience, 19 completely new units, and a specialized “Bounty Mode” for skirmish and multiplayer matchmaking. The core addition is the Titian-class unit tier, composed of hyper-scaled, single-entity mechanical war structures designed to disrupt late-game stalemates.

Gameplay Overhaul
Planetary Annihilation: TITANS operates on the same core mechanics as the original 2014 game, featuring fully spherical 3D maps with no traditional borders or edges. Players control a grand-scale, automated robotic army led by a singular, vital unit known as The Commander. The economy is real-time and streaming, requiring continuous balance between incoming Metal extraction rates and Energy power grids.
Multi-Level Planets and New Arenas
The expansion introduced multi-layered, structural geometric cliffs to the procedural planet-generation algorithm. Unlike the uniform smooth surfaces of the base game, TITANS maps require active tracking of elevation, bottlenecks, and plateau defense points. Certain units can navigate or hover across these height disparities, while conventional armored columns must seek out specific ramps, introducing a new level of positional tactical management to ground combat.
Mechanical Expansion and Units
The base roster was expanded with 19 specialized additions across the Land, Air, Naval, and Orbital combat planes. Significant units include:
- Hover Tanks: Amphibious tracked vehicles capable of smoothly transitioning between land and ocean layers to execute unexpected coastal flanking maneuvers.
- Orbital Battleships: Massive, heavily armed space platforms built to secure orbital control and rain down heavy kinetic bombardments onto surface fortifications from space.
- Nanobot Swarms: Fast, aggressive, short-range mechanical swarms designed to rapidly consume and deconstruct hostile squads or structures via proximity.
Bounty Mode
TITANS integrated a new game rule option called Bounty Mode for computer-driven AI skirmishes and online multiplayer. Under this configuration, players receive immediate injections of metal capital and economic boosts directly upon destroying an enemy unit or wiping out a hostile base, providing a distinct mechanical path to counter defensive turtle tactics and accelerate match velocities.
Titan-Class Units
The defining feature of the standalone expansion is the introduction of five colossal, hyper-expensive Titan super-units. Requiring massive technological investments and prolonged metal streaming pipelines, Titans act as apex war machinery:
“Titans function as absolute strategic end-points. Their physical scale allows them to effortlessly step over structural walls and flatten entire conventional army groups single-handedly.” — Developer System Manual Overview
| Titan Designation | Combat Stratum | Primary Tactical Function | Faction-Wide Special Capability |
| Atlas | Land / Surface | Heavy Seismic Vanguard Mech | Armed with massive shockwave stomp attacks that crush armies underfoot; detonates like a thermonuclear weapon upon destruction. |
| Ares | Land / Hover | Monolithic Line-Purging Super-Tank | Boasts an immense health pool and fires continuous, wide-area plasma shells to crack heavily fortified defensive lines. |
| Zeus | Air / Flight | Air Supremacy Mobile Command Ship | Discharges chain-lightning arcs that automatically jump between multiple aerial and ground targets, melting screen clearings. |
| Helios | Orbital / Space | Interplanetary Operational Platform | Fires concentrated, long-range orbital energy beams to melt planets while acting as an instant, mobile space teleporter for friendly battalions. |
| Ragnarok | Structural / Static | Doomsday Core Drill Device | A non-mobile structure that digs directly into a planet’s core; intentionally triggers a total planetary detonation to force a mutual match draw. |

Kickstarter Fulfillment
Planetary Annihilation: TITANS was distributed as a pro-consumer reward framework. Upon its August 2015 launch, all original September 2012 Kickstarter backers received the expansion completely free of charge. Additionally, existing owners of the classic vanilla client were granted a permanent 90% discount wrapper to upgrade their game key to the TITANS edition.
Formation of Planetary Annihilation Inc
In August 2018, a new independent entity named Planetary Annihilation Inc acquired the master intellectual property and source code rights from Uber Entertainment. Composed of core franchise developers and early community investors, the studio’s explicit mandate was the long-term stabilization, optimization, and competitive curation of the title. To prevent fracturing the community and to unify server resources, the classic 2014 version of the game was officially delisted from sale, leaving Planetary Annihilation: TITANS as the definitive, primary version of the game available on PC digital platforms.
Current Status and Maintenance (2026)
As of 2026, Planetary Annihilation: TITANS maintains a highly active, dedicated competitive and casual player base on Steam and the Humble Store. Running natively on a mature, dedicated 64-bit client-server framework, the engine comfortably executes matches with thousands of simultaneous units across multiple planets without experiencing the memory leaks or pathfinding exceptions of older RTS engines.
The development team continues to actively curate the game’s competitive environment under seasonal balancing initiatives. Ranked Season 15, which launched in mid-2026, implemented a comprehensive reset of 1v1 ladder standings, a reshuffling of the competitive maps database, and a specialized technical patch updating cross-play matching infrastructure for Linux and Steam Deck platforms. The long-term success of TITANS led Planetary Annihilation Inc to announce Industrial Annihilation in late 2023—a spin-off project designed to merge the grand-scale combat of the Annihilation series with deep factory-building automation loops.
