Where to buy
Lords of the Fallen II is an upcoming Soulslike action RPG developed by Hexworks and published by CI Games, currently slated for a Q1 2027 release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. It’s the direct sequel to the 2023 Lords of the Fallen reboot — making it the third game in a series with an unusually tangled naming history, since the 2023 game itself rebooted a 2014 original of the exact same name.
It was originally due in fall 2026. The delay to early 2027, announced in June 2026, is the defining fact of the game’s current status — and the story around the sequel so far has been eventful enough without a release: an abandoned Epic exclusivity deal, a plagiarism accusation, and a “player-first” marketing controversy have all preceded any hands-on time with the finished game.

The Sequel to a Redemption Story
The 2023 Lords of the Fallen launched rough and rebuilt its reputation the hard way — a stream of patches culminating in a sweeping 2.0 update that turned a mixed launch into a moderate success and restored Hexworks’ standing with the Soulslike community. CI Games has framed the sequel in ambitious terms, comparing it in interviews to The Empire Strikes Back, and has assembled what it calls a Gameplay Feedback Team — a dedicated group of Soulslike veterans embedded in development — whose input CEO Marek Tyminski cited directly when explaining the delay. Developer diaries released so far pitch a noticeably more dynamic game than the 2023 entry, with faster combat as a recurring theme.
The Delay
On June 23, 2026, Tyminski announced the move from fall 2026 to Q1 2027, citing time for “additional integration, iteration, and polishing” — and, more candidly than most delay statements, strategy: the new window “strategically positions Lords of the Fallen II outside of a highly competitive holiday period.” That’s a polite way of describing late 2026, a season crowded with heavyweight releases and dominated by Grand Theft Auto VI‘s November launch. The delay applies to all platforms, including the Switch 2 version announced at a June 2026 Nintendo Direct just weeks earlier.
The Steam-Epic Reversal
The sequel’s PC release was originally announced as an Epic Games Store exclusive under an agreement between CI Games and Epic — a deal that would have kept the game off Steam at launch entirely. In May 2026, the two companies announced a separation of that agreement, and the PC version is now confirmed for a simultaneous Steam and Epic release, with the Steam page already live. For a genre whose audience lives disproportionately on Steam, the reversal was widely read as the safer commercial call.
Pre-Release Controversies
Two episodes have shadowed the marketing cycle. In 2025, remarks from CI Games’ CEO and global marketing director framing the game’s “player-first” design philosophy in anti-DEI terms drew significant criticism and press coverage. Separately, the studio spent a stretch of the campaign defending itself against plagiarism accusations after a newly revealed enemy design was compared closely to existing work. Neither episode involves the game itself, which remains largely unplayed outside curated previews — but both are part of the context the sequel will launch into.
What to Expect Before Launch
With a Q1 2027 window and no firm date, the expected beats are a date announcement in late 2026, likely at a major showcase, followed by previews and potentially a network or demo phase closer to release. We’ll update this entry as the release date firms up and hands-on impressions arrive.
Where Things Stand
Lords of the Fallen II is not yet available to purchase or preorder in most regions; its Steam and PlayStation pages are live for wishlisting. In the meantime, the 2023 Lords of the Fallen — in its substantially improved post-2.0 state — remains the best way to catch up on the story and systems this sequel builds on.
