Xbox Disc to Digital Feature Now Live for All Console Users
Microsoft has flipped the switch on its Xbox Disc to Digital feature for all console users, bringing a tool to the general public that had previously been limited to Xbox Insiders. The rollout happened without a traditional announcement window, and some users may need to manually restart their consoles before the option appears.
How to Get It Working
According to Pure Xbox, Xbox engineer Eden Marie confirmed the feature is active, and Pure Xbox verified it on their own hardware, though a console restart was required before it showed up. There is no separate system update to download. The functionality was reportedly bundled into the September 22nd system update but kept hidden until Microsoft was ready to open it to everyone.
If the option has not appeared on your console, Pure Xbox recommends navigating to Settings, then General, then Power Options, and selecting Restart Now. After the console comes back on, inserting a supported disc should prompt you to claim a digital license for that title. Alternatively, hovering over a game tile on the dashboard and pressing the Menu button on your controller surfaces the same option.
Publisher Support Continues to Grow
The feature launched for the wider public at a useful moment for the program’s catalog. Earlier the same day, Pure Xbox reported that SEGA had joined the Xbox Disc to Digital program, adding its library to the list of eligible titles. SEGA’s arrival follows Ubisoft, which had joined the program a few weeks prior, giving players a broad range of supported games to work with from day one of the general rollout.
What the Feature Does
Xbox Disc to Digital lets players convert a physical disc they own into a permanent digital license tied to their account. The practical appeal is that it gives owners of disc-based games the flexibility to play without the disc inserted, which matters especially for those who want to consolidate their libraries or use the feature on discless console hardware. The program requires that the specific title be supported by its publisher, which is why the ongoing addition of partners like SEGA and Ubisoft directly expands what players can actually convert.
Microsoft announced the rollout through the official Xbox social media account, and the feature is available now for all Xbox console users who have the September 22nd update installed.
