Xbox CEO Confirms Project Helix Will Be a Family of Devices

Microsoft’s next-generation console platform, Project Helix, will not arrive as a single device. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma confirmed in a new BBC interview that the company has been developing “a great family of devices for Helix,” pointing to a multi-tier hardware lineup for the platform’s launch.

According to Video Games Chronicle, Sharma told the BBC that Microsoft has “been hard at work on a great next generation and a great family of devices for Helix,” adding that the company will “share more soon.” The phrasing closely mirrors how Microsoft structured the current Xbox Series generation, which launched with the high-end Series X and the budget-oriented Series S. IGN also reported on the statement, noting it is the clearest signal yet that Helix will offer more than one hardware option at launch.

A Hybrid Platform With PC Compatibility

Project Helix was first detailed publicly at GDC in March, when Microsoft confirmed the next Xbox will run both Xbox and PC games, marking its first explicit acknowledgment that the platform will function as a hybrid PC-console device. Developer hardware is expected to reach studios starting next year, as reported by VGC. Sharma reiterated this during the BBC interview, saying the goal is to let players access both their console and PC libraries through a single device.

Affordability Is a Central Concern

A significant portion of Sharma’s comments focused on the cost pressures facing the hardware industry. Rising component prices have already forced Microsoft to raise the price of Xbox Series S and X by up to $150, and the company has introduced Buy Now, Pay Later options through Microsoft Stores in response. Xboxygen covered Sharma’s broader remarks on the topic, in which she stressed that the industry must “innovate on affordability and efficiency.” She also referenced comments she made in June, warning that it will be “hard to imagine that mass audiences can afford thousands of dollars to spend on a console generation.”

With Helix still without a release window and developer kits only expected to ship next year, the full scope of the hardware family remains unclear. Microsoft has promised additional details in the near future, and the affordability angle suggests at least one entry-level model will be part of the lineup.
