Subnautica 2 Launches into Early Access Today – The Long-Awaited Underwater Sequel is Finally Here

After years of anticipation (and some behind-the-scenes drama), Subnautica 2 has officially entered Early Access today, May 14, 2026. Developed by Unknown Worlds Entertainment, the sequel to the beloved underwater survival classic is now available on PC (Steam & Epic Games Store) and Xbox Series X|S, and is launching Day One on Xbox Game Pass.

Set on an all-new alien ocean planet, Subnautica 2 expands on everything fans loved about the original: vast open-world exploration, base-building, crafting, terrifying leviathans, and mysterious alien lore. The game now supports up to 4-player co-op, features vastly improved visuals powered by Unreal Engine 5, and promises deeper survival systems and new biomes.

For players in Asia and Oceania, it rolls over to May 15 (e.g., midnight JST in Tokyo, 1:00 AM AEST in Sydney).

Preloading has been available for several days, so many players are already queued up and ready to dive in the moment the servers unlock.

What to Expect in Early Access

Unknown Worlds has been transparent that this is the beginning of a multi-year development journey. The studio plans to use player feedback to shape the final game, following the same successful model as the first Subnautica and Below Zero. A free Reaper Leviathan statue blueprint is available to all players as a thank-you for hitting over 5 million Steam wishlists.

No PlayStation 5 or Nintendo Switch 2 versions have been announced yet.
