Paramount and WBD Game Divisions to Merge Under Skydance
Following Paramount’s $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, the two entertainment giants are combining their gaming operations into a single division under Skydance, with Tony Driscoll tapped to lead the newly unified unit as President of Games and Experiences.
One Roof, Two Portfolios
As reported by Insider Gaming, the merger brings together Warner Bros. Games and the recently established Paramount Games Studio under the Skydance umbrella. Warner Bros. Games carries a well-established roster of internal studios, including Rocksteady, NetherRealm, Avalanche Software, TT Games, and WB Games Montreal. The franchises attached to those studios span some of the most recognizable names in entertainment: Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC Comics, and Game of Thrones, among others.
Paramount, meanwhile, has been assembling its own gaming footprint around properties including Star Trek, SpongeBob SquarePants, South Park, and Avatar. The combination puts a substantial library of IP under one operational structure, giving Skydance a much larger footprint in interactive entertainment than either company held independently.
Driscoll Steps In to Lead
According to Video Games Chronicle, Driscoll previously headed Paramount’s games division before being elevated to oversee the combined operation. In an internal memo, he framed the team’s scope broadly, referencing theme parks, resorts, and retail alongside game development. He also outlined an immediate plan to meet staff across offices in Los Angeles, London, Montreal, and Tokyo in the weeks following the announcement.
His memo stated that the team’s work spans immersive physical spaces and interactive digital experiences alike, positioning the division as a creative and operational engine across multiple entertainment formats, not just traditional game development.
What It Could Mean for Players
The practical outcomes for gamers are still taking shape. Skydance has not announced specific projects tied to the merger, and exactly how it intends to deploy the combined studio network and IP library remains an open question. That said, the pairing of Warner Bros. Games’ experienced development teams with Paramount’s roster of culturally prominent franchises opens a wide range of possibilities, from new licensed titles to larger cross-property projects.
Skydance has signaled that games and interactive experiences will play a growing role in its overall entertainment strategy, so the merged division is likely to receive meaningful investment rather than function as a holding structure for existing operations.
