According to Eurogamer, citing an original report from MP1st, the new Uncharted title is being directed by Shaun Escayg, a longtime Naughty Dog veteran best known for directing Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Escayg had previously departed the studio to take on the role of creative director for Marvel’s Avengers at Crystal Dynamics, but he later made his way back to Naughty Dog to work on an unspecified project, which now appears to be this new Uncharted entry. Noted industry insider NateTheHate backed the report up on Resetera, confirming that Escayg is indeed attached to a new Uncharted game, as noted by Eurogamer.

What Could the Story Look Like?

The report describes this as a fresh entry rather than a continuation through a remake or remaster. The suggestion that Nathan Drake returns but may not be the lead opens the door to several possibilities. One widely discussed scenario involves Cassie Drake, the daughter of Nathan and Elena Fisher who appears at the conclusion of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, potentially stepping into a starring role for a next-generation adventure. No plot details have been officially confirmed.

When Could It Actually Release?

Fans should temper their expectations on timing. Eurogamer reports that Naughty Dog is not expected to shift full focus onto this Uncharted project until after it ships Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, the studio’s current primary game. Naughty Dog has indicated that Intergalactic will receive a proper reveal in 2027, suggesting a release around that same year. Given that development on the new Uncharted title is still described as early, the game is likely several years away at minimum.
