Square Enix has put a firm date on the third and final chapter of its Final Fantasy 7 trilogy: Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will launch on April 8, 2027, landing almost exactly seven years after Final Fantasy 7 Remake arrived on April 10, 2020.

What the New Trailer Showed

Revealed during a PlayStation State of Play, the new Revelation trailer focused heavily on party members, delivering fresh looks at both Cid and Vincent. According to GamesRadar, the pair complete the roster of characters drawn from the original Final Fantasy 7. The trailer also gave extended screen time to Wutai, the home nation of Yuffie, which serves as one of the major regions players will explore in the finale.

Following that trailer, Square Enix presented a dedicated gameplay deep-dive. Players were shown the Highwind airship operating as a deployment hub, with the party launching off it in a skydiving sequence. Once on the ground in Wutai, Yuffie demonstrated a grapple gun used for navigating the environment, suggesting traversal mechanics that differ across regions and characters.

Open World and Character Choice

One of the more significant mechanical shifts on display is the ability to choose which party member you control in the open world, as confirmed by Video Games Chronicle. Players will no longer be locked to Cloud outside of combat or story sequences. That flexibility extends into side content as well: Square Enix showed that quests can play out differently depending on which character you bring to them, adding meaningful replay potential to optional content.

As GameSpot notes, the scope of Revelation appears to match or exceed that of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, which drew some criticism for its sheer size. Director Naoki Hamaguchi has also stated the team thought carefully about incorporating more references from the broader Final Fantasy 7 compilation for the trilogy’s conclusion, and that Revelation will include additional spin-off characters.
