Expeditions: Samurai Announced – Next Entry in the Acclaimed Historical RPG Series Heads to Feudal Japan

THQ Nordic and developer Campfire Cabal (a new studio formed by former Logic Artists staff) have officially revealed Expeditions: Samurai, the next chapter in the beloved Expeditions historical RPG series.

The game was unveiled today during IGN Live 2026 with a cinematic announcement trailer that showcases feudal Japan during the turbulent Sengoku period. Players will step into the role of a foreign explorer — reportedly a Dutch privateer — navigating the complex political landscape of warring clans, samurai honor, and foreign influence in 16th-century Japan.

What We Know So Far

• Setting: Sengoku-era Japan (Warring States period), marking the series’ first journey into Asia.
• Gameplay: A party-based RPG featuring turn-based tactical combat, deep role-playing choices, exploration, and branching narratives. The game emphasizes historical authenticity mixed with player-driven storytelling.

Spiritual Successor to Expeditions: Rome

Campfire Cabal consists of many veterans from Logic Artists, the studio behind Expeditions: Rome (2022) and earlier entries. After Logic Artists was disbanded, the core team regrouped under the new banner to continue the Expeditions legacy with fresh energy.
