Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement Delayed to 2027
Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement will no longer arrive on its previously expected schedule. Producer and developer Koji Igarashi, best known for his decades of work on the Castlevania series, has confirmed in a development update video that the game has been pushed to 2027.
The Delay Announcement
According to Video Games Chronicle, Igarashi delivered the news directly to fans in a video update, stating that development has entered its final stages but the team needs more time. “We have made the decision to move the game’s release to the year 2027,” Igarashi said in the video. “We understand that this is disappointing news for our fans, but everyone on the development team is working hard to make the game the best it can be.”
The announcement came alongside new screenshots from the game. Igarashi also noted that gameplay footage is expected to be shared with the public soon.
What We Know About the Game
As GamesRadar notes, The Scarlet Engagement was first announced in June 2025 and serves as a spiritual successor to Igarashi’s previous work in the genre. The game features two playable protagonists: Leonard Brandon, described as a young fighter belonging to the Church’s Black Wolves clan, and Alexander Kyteler, a knight of the Kingdom’s White Stag.

A Development Team Marked by Loss
The road to release has not been without hardship. Castlevania and Bloodstained veteran Shutaro Iida passed away in February 2026 following a battle with pancreatic cancer. Igarashi paid tribute to his longtime colleague, saying, “His talent was exceptional.” The loss added a somber note to a project that has otherwise been building anticipation among fans of the genre.
Igarashi closed his delay message on an appreciative note, thanking supporters for their patience: “We sincerely appreciate your continued support.” With gameplay footage reportedly on the way, fans will at least have more to look at while they wait for 2027 to arrive.
