Ubisoft has unveiled a dramatic company-wide “major reset,” canceling development on six games—including the long-troubled Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake—while closing two studios and delaying seven more titles amid soaring costs and a hyper-competitive AAA market.

The overhaul, announced Wednesday, reorganizes Ubisoft’s studios into five specialized “Creative Houses” focused on core pillars like open-world adventures and games-as-a-service (GaaS). CEO Yves Guillemot described it as a “decisive turning point,” stating: “While these decisions are difficult, they are necessary for us to build a more focused, efficient and sustainable organisation over the long term.”

Canceled Projects and Studio Closures Among the casualties is the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, first revealed in 2020 but plagued by delays and a full reboot. It joins four unannounced titles (three new IPs) and one mobile game that “did not meet enhanced quality expectations.”

Two studios face full closure:

  • Ubisoft Stockholm (Sweden), which contributed to Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and was developing a new IP.
  • Ubisoft Halifax (Canada), a mobile-focused team on Assassin’s Creed titles that unionized just last week (impacting 71 jobs).

Restructuring hits additional sites, including Abu Dhabi, RedLynx (Trials), and Massive (The Division), with further layoffs confirmed but no specific numbers disclosed beyond prior European cuts of 185 roles.

Delays, New Focus, and Financial Hit Seven unnamed games are delayed for “enhanced quality,” reportedly including the Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag remake (now FY2027). Ubisoft scrapped its fiscal year guidance, forecasting €1.5 billion in net bookings—a €330 million drop—while shares tumbled 33% Thursday morning.

The “Creative Houses” streamline operations:

CH4Narrative/FantasyAnno, Rayman, Prince of Persia, Beyond Good & Evil (2 confirmed in dev)
CH5Casual/FamilyJust Dance, Uno, Hungry Shark

Four new IPs are in the works, including acquired MOBA March of Giants. All teams must return to five-day office work.

Guillemot blamed “persistently more selective” AAA trends: “Exceptional AAA games… have more financial potential than ever,” but risks demand focus on proven brands.

Fan reaction on X echoed shock over Prince of Persia, with BBC links dominating feeds. This follows 2025 cuts and Tencent’s €1.25 billion Vantage investment, signaling Ubisoft’s bid for recovery.
